I Decided to Start This Again

A quiet Sunday in Chennai reminded me that a day doesn't have to be perfectly productive to feel full. Sometimes, taking care of small things is enough to begin again.

I Decided to Start This Again

I woke up at 7 a.m. today with a clear thought in my head — today I’ll be productive.

Spoiler: I wasn’t. At least not in the way I imagined.

The first thing I did was watch the reels my girlfriend had sent me and send her some reels. I lay there a little longer than planned. Then I went up to the terrace. The sun was coming up slowly, and Chennai mornings have this soft warmth that feels gentle, not harsh. I stood there quietly for some time. No music. No scrolling. Just me and the light. It felt meaningful in a small way.

After freshening up, I went out for breakfast. For the first time since coming to Chennai, I stepped out on a Sunday morning and bought breakfast for myself. I don’t know why that felt important, but it did. Maybe because I can afford it now. The internship stipend makes small freedoms possible. I don’t think about money every second when I order something. That feels new.

Later I called a friend and helped her with interview prep. We spoke about how to structure answers, how a resume should look, and what interviewers usually listen for. While explaining things to her, I realized I’ve learned more in the past few months than I give myself credit for. Some clarity has settled inside me without me noticing.

In the afternoon, my girlfriend and I started watching Friends from the beginning. She’s watching it for the fourth time. I’m watching it for the first. It’s interesting how comfort shows work. We watched one episode in the morning and three more later. Simple, easy laughter. No thinking required.

I went to the salon and got my beard trimmed. The oil massage was unexpectedly relaxing. I didn’t realize how tense my shoulders were until someone pressed into them. I came back, had lunch, and took a short nap.

At 4:45 p.m., I went to Westside for shopping. I even joked to myself — “yeah, Westside, I’m rich.” I bought a polo T-shirt and blue jeans and gave them for alteration. While waiting, I went to More and bought oats and a notebook. Something about buying a fresh notebook always feels like a reset. I picked up the clothes, came back to my room, and ordered a glass jar for the oats. It arrived in 15 minutes. Zepto still surprises me.

Then I just sat.

I didn’t know what to do next. No big goals. No urgent tasks. Just silence in the room.

And that’s when the thought came — start the blog again.

Maybe today wasn’t “productive.” I didn’t build anything big. I didn’t study for hours. But the day felt full in a quiet way. I took care of small things. I enjoyed small comforts. I spoke to people I care about.

It’s 8:00 p.m. now. I’m on a call with my girlfriend, and we’re budgeting for the month, tracking expenses. It feels oddly responsible.

That was my day.

See you tomorrow.
